Christina Wang and Suraendher Kumarr captains of the CJC Hockey team, have the following to say:
The CJ hockey team has come a long way since we first started. We might not be the most skillful players in the competition but I can certainly say that these players standing in front of you, have become players that give all their heart and passion for the sport. I am proud of these men and women and I can assure you, CJCians, that in today’s boys’ match against VJC we wish to send a message to everyone, that pre-packaged skillful players are not what makes a champion team. It is sheer heart, fitness and a sense of direction. We would like to thank Mr Troy Chong, Mr Lim Yoke Kuang and Miss Marie Tan Pei Shan for their genuine care and support for the team. Also the Student Council for their support and most importantly, the man above us all, God. I would like to end off by saying that teeth, bones, sweat and comfort are what we are ready to give away in exchange for victory, pride, love and respect. Thank you and God bless.
The Ablaze team also conducted a short interview with
Christina (C) and
Kumarr (K):
Q: How are you guys feeling about the upcoming season.
C: Mixed emotions. We are extremely nervous but really excited to play our hearts out. But also, at the same time, we are a little sad because this is going to be our first and last 'A' division that we will be playing as a team.
K: A little anxious but above all, excited and pumped up nonetheless. This is like our ‘Final Year Exams’ for Hockey. And just like any final year exam, we can’t help but feel anxious because of how much we expect out of it. We’re also excited to see how we perform this season under our new coach, Roy who has changed our playing style a great deal for the better.
Q: What are our goals?
C: WIN. No draws! Get into second round like how the previous two batches have done and of course, to proceed into the semi and final rounds.
K: Our dream is to be champions. We believe in aiming for the stars and landing on the moon at the very least. Failure is the mother of success and we believe that despite not being able to even be among the top 4 teams nationally, we have learnt from our mistakes a great deal. As such, we are not afraid to aim big. Despite most of our players having no hockey experience prior to this, our determination and sheer willpower, I believe, will shine through. We also aim at becoming closer to one another even after our hockey season ends as the bonds we have forged have grown indelible. We have become a family as a result of hockey bringing us closer together and we hope these bonds don’t wither away.
Q: What do we hope to gain as a team this year?
C: A sense of accomplishment and fullfillment. Strong friendship that we will be able to keep even after the season ends.
K: We hope to acquire the feeling of having no regrets that we did our best. And with that feeling, we hope to be united as one. We either heal as a team, or crumble as individuals.
Q: What do you wish from the student body in terms of support?
C: Come down for our matches at CCAB/Seng Kang and show the other team how strong the CJ spirit is.
K: We would like to thank the student body and especially the Student Council for supporting all our CCAs. It is really nice to see CJCians come down for matches because it becomes a huge motivation for us on the pitch when we physically see who we are playing for. It really enables us to summon a great amount of energy to go the extra mile. Although we know it is practically impossible to have most of the student body to come down and support most of our matches, we believe a simple wish of good luck before the game will suffice as we will always have the CJC school community in our hearts when we play each game.
All the best in your competition, Hockey!
