9 May (Wednesday) Anglo Chinese Junior College

Jeanette Kwan, President of the CJC Drama Society, has the following to say:
"What lies behind us and what lies before us, are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us" This wonderful quote made by Oliver Wendell Holmes decades ago still holds much truth today. Good morning CJ, I am Jeanette, President of the Drama society. On the 9th of may, we will be taking part in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival. In the past few months, I have had the privilege of working with the lovely group of people standing behind me and their dedication and commitment to our SYF piece is incredible. What lies before us truly is a tiny matter compared to what lies within each drama member. I must also thank Ms Meera Gopalkrishna, Mr Christopher Tay and Ms Serene Thong for being the best teachers that any society could hope to have in their SYF year. Many thanks also to the school for allowing us this opportunity and God who has always provided for us in times of need. CJ, may I present, your Drama society.
The Ablaze team also conducted a short interview with Jeanette: Q: How are you guys feeling about the upcoming season. A: We are definitely nervous since most of us have not had SYF or Drama experience before. At the same time we are also very excited to take on the challenge as a society to overcome any obstacles that come our way. Q: What are your goals? A: Theatre, like any other art form, is extremely subjective so our goal is not result based. We of course hope that our efforts will, in the least, help us achieve a silver, but our main focus is to become a cohesive unit with members who work hand in hand, giving our best for not just the Society but the school. Q: What do you hope to gain as a team this year? A: We hope to gain experience and a greater understanding of each other. Theatre is about actors show casing their representations of society and their opinions on issues it faces. Learning to understand different people and their different characters will help us move forward to become a society with greater ability to empathise and sympathise, enabling us to better represent humans and their nature. Q: What do you wish from the student body in terms of support? A: As our competition is early in the morning, we wish nothing more than some words of encouragment. All the best in your competition, Drama Society!
