Orientation 2013: Illumino - Day 1

Today was the first day of Orientation 2013!

The doors of the Auditorium opened and people streamed in with a colourful sea of uniforms. Orientation 2013 began with assembly, a speech from Mrs. Kong, and a speech by the President of the 38th Student Council, Peh Zheng Wei. After the speech, the OGLs welcomed the new JC1s with the Mass Dance!

The day commenced with ice-breaker games and OG bonding to get everyone familiar with each other and soon enough, our new JC1s were warmed up and ready to carry on with the day’s activities. The J1s then had a subject combination talk and a preview for what was in store for them in the next week. To our new JC1 students, we hope you continue to have a wonderful experience for the rest of Orientation 2013!

The Student Council President, Zheng Wei’s opening address:

Good morning J1s, welcome to Catholic JC. Your Orientation Group Leaders and I are so excited to have you here with us and we can’t wait to kick off this Orientation together with you. I am Zheng Wei, the President of the Student Council.

The theme for Orientation this year is Illumino, the Latin root word of Illuminate. The idea of light in Illuminate is associated with our college flame that will guide us in our journey here in CJ.

As of now, all of you are in different school uniforms, coming from different schools. I assure you that if you go all out to enjoy yourself during Orientation, you will make many friends by the end of Orientation. I personally made many friends during Orientation and forged many friendships last year and I know they are my friends who will be my friends for life.

I hope that all of you will have a good time and enjoy Orientation, form lasting friendships, love the college that all of us seniors care so deeply for and be a part of our CJ family.

This will be a brand new experience for you, but we hope that you will enjoy and participate fully in all the activities planned for you. So, go all out and just have fun during these 5 days.

Together, let’s make this a memorable experience in your entire JC life.

This is a notice for the JC1s:

You are reminded that you need to purchase your PE attire by Tuesday morning. You only need to buy the PE shirt; the PE shorts will not be required for Orientation. The PE shirt costs $9 and the shorts cost $8.

Prayer in Song

The Music Ministry and Catholic Activities Wing of the Student Council are glad to present our latest project - The Prayer in Song session! This is a special prayer session in which, instead of saying the words, we'll be singing them. Whether you're feeling up or down, feel free to come down and spend this time to reflect on your life and relationship with God. This session is especially suitable for those of you with Prelims or Project Work woes. So come join us, whether you're a student, parent, teacher or non-teaching staff member - All are welcome. However, please note that this is only for members of our CJC family to attend. The songs we will be singing are: 1. Running After You 2. Mighty to Save 3. Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) 4. With all I am 5. One Way This event will be held in our school's Chapel on this Thursday (19 July) from 6pm-7pm. Due to space constraints, please place your bags in the TDC before coming! We hope that you can join in this night of prayer, to rediscover yourself and God through music and friends. Tune in to God!

BDD II: The Gift of Life

149 donors and 447 lives saved!

On the 11th and 12th of July, droves of CJCians made their way down to the Auditorium Extension to donate blood. On the first day alone, a total of 84 donors gave the gift of life! Many more CJCians attempted to donate blood but unfortunately, were deferred. Still, let us give these individuals a round of applause for their courage for making the decision to come for the Blood Donation Drive. CJC don't just stop here! Do bear in mind that every hour of the day, 15 units of blood are used in Singapore. HSA need to collect at least 350 units a day, as a whopping 100,000 units are needed in a year, just to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Singapore! So, successful donors, recuperate for 8-12 weeks before donating again and unsuccessful donors, do not give up! Here is a link to locate the blood bank most convenient for you! Good Job CJC! A big thank you to all who have participated in the second Blood Donation Drive of the year. Your heartfelt donation will go a long way to help those who need it! Remember, your blood is replaceable BUT a Life is NOT !
