Sports Carnival 2013: One CJC

Hello CJC! You all must be wondering what ONE^CJC is exactly after today's morning announcement! Well, with this post, you will be able to gain a better understanding of this year's Sports Carnival's theme!

Origin
Origin refers to the origins of CJC, and the identities of our houses based on the Saints that they have been named after. The inheritance of the names facilitates a greater and deeper understanding of our college, a history that few CJCians are acquainted with.

The college flame consists of three primary colors, each representative of the positive qualities and traits which our college promotes – Red signifies passion and love, expressed in service, which is built on the truth that sets us free. Yellow embodies warmth and compassion, as well as gratitude for what we have. Gold is the colour of excellence and our collective aspiration to shine in all that we do. This combination of colour outline our aim to excel in living and learning.

Newness
CJC's community is growing every year with incoming J1s. This means new experiences will be made, new perspectives are created, new knowledge is gained and new bonds are formed. All of this brings about a constant renewal of CJC's community.

For the J2s, it will be a new experience as well as they transit from being the juniors to the seniors, having to be the role models to the J1s, as well as having more responsibilities, such as in their studies and their co-curricular activities (CCA).

For both cohorts, this is the first year whereby we go beyond the naming and the colour of our houses, but rather, gain a deeper understanding of our houses as well.

Excellence
Starting anew together, CJCians can thus excel as one. We encourage each other to strive for excellence and so CJC's community is continually brought to greater heights. We want all CJCians to embody CJC's community spirit, i.e. One in Truth and in Love, and the never-say-die attitude to pursue excellence in whatever we do, be it our interests or academics.

Contribute
While the CJC in the theme does stand for Catholic Junior College, we also hope for it to encompass the theme of contributing and giving back to society, in line with the school missions and values.

Above all, we hope that CJCians not only excel in academics or sports but excel in their character too, so that they would be able to share and utilize their talents for the benefits of the entire society, especially through contributing to the least in our society. This would thus drive home the idea of CJCians being "Thinkers with a Mission and Leaders with a Heart".

See you there at this year's Sports Carnival!

Ablaze 2013: CCA Speeches

Ablaze '13:
CCA speeches

Football
Good morning Mrs Kong, Mr Tan, Mr Lee, teachers and fellow CJCians. The Football team of 2013 has been working and training hard since pre-season training started in January. We have come a long way and we hope to do well in the A Division championships this year. However, we need your support. So do come down and support us if you can during our games. We hope to see all of you there!
Judo
Good morning CJC! For the first 2 weeks of April, we will be sending our Judo teams, both boys and girls to battle it out in the A Divisions National Judo Championships 2013. It will be a fierce, adrenaline-packed contest of physical endurance and wit as we pit ourselves against other JCs with more experienced players. Our CJ Judo team may be mostly inexperienced as most of us only started since last year, but nevertheless, our Judokas always train hard with conviction, such that we have managed to remain in the top three for the past few years. This time round, we strongly hope to bring more glory to our CCA and the school by getting into the finals and increasing our medal count for the individual championships.

Once again, I present to you our CJC Judo team of 2013!
Hockey
Gopi: Good morning Mrs Kong, Mr Tan, Mr Lee, Dr Phua, teachers and fellow CJ-cians. I am Gopi.

Amanda: and I'm Amanda and we're the captains of CJC hockey.

We would first like to thank our teachers in charge, Mr Troy Chong, Mr Lim and Miss Tan for their undying support and guidance. Also, we would especially like to thank our seniors who have kindly taken time off their busy schedules to come down and help us with our trainings. The journey leading up to A- divs has been filled with many obstacles and setbacks but we have stuck together as a team abd here we are today to say that we are ready to enter the competition season and play our very best to do CJC proud. We believe that actions speak louder than words, so do come down and support us at our matches and see what the CJ hockey team is truly made of. Presenting to you, the CJ hockey team!

CJ... Wolves!!!!

Thank you!
Track & Field
Good morning Mrs Kong, Mr Tan, Mr Lee, teachers and fellow CJCians. Ever since we entered CJC, these brave athletes you see before you have been training their hearts out, puking and having near death experiences after every training session. Sometimes, even questioning the purpose of life after them.

But from the 4th to the 17th of April, all their hard work and perseverance will be put to the test during the National Inter-School Track & Field Championships at Choa Chu Kang Stadium. Hopefully, we will be able to triumph against traditional powerhouses in our various events. If you can, we hope that you will come down to support us at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium, over the course of our Nationals. Directions to the stadium as well as the schedule of our various events will be put up on the Track notice board. Thank you!

CJ CHASE!
Shooting
Good morning Mrs Kong, teachers and fellow CJCians, I’m Dahlia from shooting! Now, unlike most of the other CCAs, we cannot invite our friends and supporters down to our competition venue to cheer us on, as much as we wish all of you could be there. I am here today, on behalf of the Shooting club, to thank you all for the support thus far, both mentally and spiritually, from our friends wishing us luck before our competitions, to our teachers who are so accommodating of our absence from classes. I would also like to use this opportunity to especially thank our teachers-in-charge, Ms Ma, Mr Tan Lye Huat, Mr Gabriel and Mr Tan Wee Yong, for your constant care and guidance for us. Your continued emotional support means a lot to all of us and I, once again on behalf of the whole CCA, want to let you all know that we of CJC Shooting, promise to do our very best at every shot, bringing honor and glory to our school!! Thank you!
Canoeing
Good morning CJC,Today before you stand the 17 members of the canoeing team, men and women who will be racing during the A divison competition. We have trained our hardest, pushed beyond our limits and gone the distance. We have sacrificed blood, sweat, tears and our Saturday mornings just for this competition. It hasn't been easy. Is still isn't especially since we've had less than 2 years of training while some of our competitors have had 5. The odds may be stacked against us, but as you know odds are just numbers. And we didn't come all this way to let numbers define us. What defines is our hopes and dreams, our efforts and our determination. Because when the body fails, what pushes us on is up here in the mind. All this wouldnt have been possible without the help of Mr Lim, Ms Chia, Mr Pang, Mr Ha and Mr Chong. If you are free, please come down to Macritchie from 8-11 April to support us. CJC I present to you your canoeing team of 2013!

AWAS GO! CJ CANOEING WOOSH!
Cross Country
"I am made of all the days you don’t see, not just the one you do." This is a quote by Jan Frodeno, and something highly relevant to Cross Country. Good morning Mrs Kong, Mr Tan, Mr Lee, teachers and fellow CJCians. My name is Kelvin, and I’m the Captain of the Cross Country team. Standing before you are 16 runners who have sacrificed a lot to run for the college. We trained, we cringed, we puked and we braved the storm together. Imagine having to wake up at 6am for 12km runs on Saturday mornings; it was never easy. But over the months, we have destroyed our personal bests, and we are ready to blaze a trail at Bedok Reservoir. A big thank you to all those who have supported us, especially Coach Mok, who have guided us to be mature racers and Mr Lim Zhiyi, who imparted much knowledge to us. Go hard or go home; it’s now or never. Thank you!
Gymnastics
Good morning everyone,

Kristel: I’m Kristel!
Alexiaa: I’m Alexiaa! Both: and, we are from Gymnastics!

Kristel: Through the span of one year, we have trained hard and despite the difficulties faced, we did not falter but gave moral encouragement to each other. Since our competitions are approaching, I would like to use this opportunity to thank our teachers-in-charge, Miss Huang, Mr Yu and Miss Lin for taking time off their busy schedule to look after us during trainings, and also our coaches for giving us their all and providing us with constructive criticism to help us better ourselves in this sport. Their constant care and guidance has helped has helped us reach where we are today.

Alexiaa: As gymnastics is a sport that requires long hours of trainings, we would like to garner your support for our efforts that we’ll be putting into this year’s A Divisions competition. Catch our gymnasts in action in this eye opening experience you don’t want to miss! For trampoline, it will be held at the CCAB on the 26th March. Rhythmic gymnastics will be held at Jurong Sports and Cultural Centre from the 10-12th April and the artistic gymnastics competition will be held at Bishan Sports Hall from the 23rd to the 26th of April.
Both: Please come down and support us!
Thank you!

CJ's OSLP program presents students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to countries like Cambodia, India, Batam and Thailand to not only give help to those in need, but also experience personal growth through learning how to communicate cross-culturally and gain a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
